It's a personal choice- whichever doesn't cause your glucose level to go above the maximum in the range you operate within.- no spike
For me rice has to be half a normal portion, bread is one slice per meal.I use cauliflower rice instead of proper rice

My diabetic consultant and DIABETES UK told me wholegrain/multigrain/wholemeal bread and brown rice and wholewheat pasta are light years better than white bread and any kind of white rice or white pasta but they still have to be strictly portion controlled

Rice has one of the highest glycemic indexes of all starches. This means that the body processes it very quickly which can cause blood sugar spikes.

Since I love rice, I had to try the 1/3 C portion of brown rice, then basmati rice, and also jasmine rice. All at different times of course. When I checked my blood glucose readings after the meals, it was very high.

If this is something you want to try, go ahead, but please be sure to check your readings after the meal and see how your body is responding. We are all different and you may be able to tolerate rice.

Best of luck with this.
