How About A Different Question Today? What Field/discipline/job/career Did You Study For Post Secondary If Anything?
I thought of this question from a number of posts where particularly new members come here asking for "medical advice" when we are simply a support group
During an Ambassadors meeting the other day a pertinent subject came up as well where the AI Bot uses information posted in the group along with whatever (medical) source to formulate an answer to a question asked
Now I know a fair bit about diabetes - grew up around it and took an interest and do a lot of reading - mostly university and… read more

Is It "Statistics Sunday"?
It has been a while since I posted up Diabetes statistics, and we have a whole new crew of members, so here is a few Diabetic Statistics
Rate of Diabetes in the General Population - about 12% or 1 in every 8 people
In 1960 the rate of overweight/obesity was 13% and Type 2's accounted for 2% of the population - 1 in every 50 people
Today 72% of the population is overweight or obese and the Type 2 rate has increased 600% to 1 in every 8
Overweight/Obese = increased rate of diabetes - YOUR… read more

Do We Need To Manage Our Expectations When Living With Diabetes?
The other day I was watching some show, characters were all excited when one said “Slow Down – you need to manage your expectations”.
I got thinking - does this apply to Diabetics?
The day we get our Diagnosis our Life changes Forever.
I see many who seem to think their next 10, 20 or 30 years have gone down the drain now that they are “Diabetic”.
Whether we choose to ignore it, jump right in with both feet or settle somewhere in the middle Diabetes will be with us for the rest of our days… read more

I Know A Couple Of People Who Became Diabetic Recently And They Don’t Have To Check Their Sugar At All . Is This Something New ?

It. If I could afford it I would definitely get it. I even tried with the… read more
Has Anyone Had Suicidal Thoughts Because Of All The Frustration And Emotional Roller Coaster Ride That Diabetes Gives Us?
Just tired of it all! 400 dollars a month of meds that I can’t afford. Trillium doesn’t work because apparently we’re not poor enough. Our deductible is high and it makes it not worth it.
Feel like the Doctor and dietician are just keeping me on the back burner.
I haven’t slept in 36 hours cause the neuropathy in my feet is painful.
Just seem to be out of options.
I have had thoughts I'm bipolar, but then i.realize I'm not letting this or any other disease make me unhappy, i have too many people I love and it gets me through..hang in there.
Do You Hate Being Called "Diabetic"?
Every 5 years the leading experts in the treatment of Type 2 get together at this big conference and make changes, based on new information, to the "consensus guidelines" that are used by the EU, UK and most of the Commonwealth and the United States, that become the national medical guidelines
So whether I post up something from the ADA's US Guidelines or from Diabetes Australia (or Canada or the UK), the only difference in the paragraph will be some spelling changes
Anyhow, in their latest… read more
It is what I have . Not who I am. I have hypertension but no one refers to me as a hypertensive ! Or because I take thyroid medicine I am not referred to as a Thyroidic!
